Hi Mark,

Saw your interview on FOX this AM. Enjoyed your comments. But, I jotted down this web site to look at planes.

Comment: My bride and I flew into Tempelhof on Dec. 1st, 1962 for our honeymoon. We flew from Stutgart. (I was a G.I. & she a DOD Civilian teacher). We have memories of that flight into Berlin and the 4 days there with the Wall, etc.

I find it interesting that it has closed around our Anniversery.

I also went via train from Frankfurt in Nov. of 1960 to play a football game in the Sports Stadium vs. the Army's Berlin Bears team. I was w/the Ulm Hawks team. (by the way, that was American Football). It took us 12 hours to make that trip (8 PM to 8 AM). We had to stop at every station, to let "other trains" go by. I never saw "other trains" go by.

Anyway, just more memories triggered by Berlin 's name. Another part of history being eliminated or circumvented by today's polititions, w/some strange ties to Mr. Obama, and he was there last year.

Thanks for the article.

In 1995 I toured the museum at San Francisco's Treasure Island with friends. Treasure Island had been built as a site of the 1939 World's Fair, and then was to be converted to San Francisco's airport.

One of my friends had spent her Senior Year of high school in Berlin. She commented to the docent how much the museum's building looked like the terminal at Tempelhof. He told us the building had been built with the idea that it would become the terminal building of the future airport. It had been modeled after the then new Templehof terminal. He showed us a photo of how the building stood in for Tempelhof in the original Indiana Jones movie.

Treasure Island never became the airport. Someone finally re-thought the idea of planes landing and taking off next to the San Francisco Bay Bridge. It became a Navy base for many years.
